This may be real reason Connor Goldson has stayed at Rangers after latest news – pundit
Frank McAvennie has suggested Connor Goldson may have signed a new contract with Rangers to attract a bigger move next summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said that Goldson signed a new deal with the Gers because he didn’t get the offer he wanted to leave Ibrox.
On Saturday, (9 July), the Daily Record reported that the 29-year-old had never had “any intention” to leave the Ibrox club.
The defender has said that press comments about rejecting a new deal from the Glasgow club were untrue.
Rangers confirmed (1 July) that Goldson has signed a new long-term deal with the club.
The centre-back put pen to paper on a new four-year deal, keeping him with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side until 2026.
He joins Scott Arfield and Steven Davis who also recently extended their stay at Ibrox.
When asked for his assessment of the latest, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Goldson signed because nobody came in for him. Or he didn’t get the offer he was wanting.
“It’s a strange one but he’s thought if he does better next season he might get a better club next year.
“Fair play to him that’s the way to do it, rather than just going and playing down divisions somewhere.“

Goldson made 61 appearances for Rangers last season across all competitions, including 14 in their Europa League campaign.
He scored four goals and provided four assists during that time.
In other news, a pundit has suggested Tom Lawrence may soon regret Rangers move amid ‘£20m’ claim.
