This may be real reason Erik ten Hag now wants to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at Man United
Frank McAvennie has suggested Cristiano Ronaldo will be a good teacher for the younger players at Man United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said the Red Devils would have struggled without Ronaldo last season.
On Thursday (7 July), this site revealed that Chelsea were preparing a £14million bid for the Portuguese international.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported (11 July) that Erik ten Hag has no intention of selling the 37-year-old.
The manager has said the striker is in his plans for next season.
When asked for his assessment of the latest, McAvennie told Football Insider: “The biggest problem for me is what they’re going to do with Cristiano Ronaldo.
“People are saying they have to let him go because he’s too big for the club.
“That means all the kids at Man United are losing because they’re not taking advice from Cristiano Ronaldo – the one guy that’s won everything in the game.
“He said it himself, when he was at Man United he took everything from Roy Keane and [Paul] Scholes, he learnt from them.
“These boys don’t want to learn from anybody and maybe that’s today’s game – they’re just not interested in learning, they think they’ve done it because they’re at Man United.

“Where would they be without all of Ronaldo’s goals last season? They would have really struggled without him.“
Ronaldo made 30 league appearances for United last season, scoring 18 goals and providing three assists.
