‘Thomas Frank expected to join as Tottenham dressing room turns on Postecoglou’

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is a top target for Tottenham, who are expected to part with Europa League-winning boss Ange Postecoglou.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (4 June) that Frank, 51, is emerging as Tottenham’s number one choice to take over as manager.

Club chiefs have been exploring alternatives to Postecoglou for months, including the Brentford boss, Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.

Tottenham have a big attraction following their qualification to the Champions League for the 2025-26 campaign.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has bluntly claimed “it is time” for Frank to move on from Brentford and make the grade elsewhere.

Frank told ‘it is time’ to leave Brentford

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Frank has the “right personality” to handle notorious Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

The Danish boss has been with Brentford since 2018 and achieved promotion to the Premier League with the Bees in 2021.

Wyness insisted Postecoglou is not the right man to lead Tottenham forward despite their Europa League success.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’ve been saying for a while that Frank is the obvious change.

“There’s a lot of change at Spurs right now, but we still don’t officially know that Ange is going.

“There’s a camp saying Levy may give in to the feeling of euphoria, which is on Ange’s side.

“But I don’t think he’s the right man. I think a lot of the players won’t be fully on his side.

“You’ve got to look at the season overall. We can all understand the injuries, but it was his inability to adapt which was striking.

“I do expect Frank to come in. He’s got the right personality to handle Levy and he’s had the experience with Brentford.

“It would be a loss for Brentford, but I think it’s time for him to move on from there as well.”

Tottenham set sights on cut-price Tel deal

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (3 June) that Tottenham are preparing to return to the negotiating table with Bayern Munich in a bid to agree a cut-price permanent deal for Mathys Tel.

Sources say there is a willingness at Spurs to sign Tel, 20, despite his mixed loan with the club in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign.

However, the Lilywhites will not pay the £45million buy option they agreed with Bayern earlier this year.
