‘Thomas Frank has to be sacked tonight’ as Tottenham fans explode after Newcastle defeat
Thomas Frank appears to have managed his final game in charge of Tottenham after another frustrating defeat to Newcastle United.
Tottenham have fallen into a relegation battle in the Premier League, now sitting 16th in the table after the Magpies claimed all three points in North London on Tuesday, 10 February.
Heading into the game, Eddie Howe was also under pressure at Newcastle, but he bought himself some time, thanks to goals from Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey, cancelling out Archie Gray‘s equaliser.
The game seems like a real turning point in the season for the Lilywhites, and there could be yet another twist, with the hierarchy being urged to make another change in the dugout.
If fans had their way, he would be carried out through the exit doors tonight.
Thomas Frank has run out of time at Tottenham
Spurs appeared to completely run out of ideas against Newcastle, having just two shots on target during the entire game, and the blame ultimately lands at the manager’s feet.
Supporters are now regretting the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, and if the same fans get their way this time, Frank will not be in charge for the next game against Arsenal on Sunday, 22 February.
Supporters have come together on social media, all wanting the former Brentford man sacked before midnight, and that could certainly happen given the outrage and fan fury.
- @nick_davison10: “Please don’t post any player interviews where they say sorry, and certainly don’t post anything from Thomas Frank. All we want to see and hear tonight is that you’ve grown the bollocks and sacked him.”
- @Rob_Gl33son: “Surely Spurs sack Thomas Frank tonight or tomorrow at the latest – SURELY!”
- @Sean_FootyMad: “Harry Redknapp surely getting a phone call tonight. Thomas Frank can’t survive this now.”
Which managers are in the running to replace Frank?
Mauricio Pochettino is currently the favourite for the Tottenham job, which will be music to supporters’ ears, followed narrowly by Roberto De Zerbi, Robbie Keane and Xavi.
The likes of Enzo Maresca, Steven Gerrard and Gareth Southgate have all been given outside chances of being given the job, but as long as a change is made, Spurs fans will not care at all.
It remains to be seen what it will take for a change to be made. Even with all the injuries piling up, that could have been fixed during the winter transfer window. It wasn’t.
The clock is ticking for Frank to turn his fortunes around. Should he lose to Arsenal, which is extremely likely given the two teams’ forms, there would be no other option but to terminate his contract.
