Thomas Frank says Tottenham have ‘fantastic’ player ‘every coach would love’

Tottenham bounced back from their disappointing defeat to Aston Villa in style to move into Premier League title contention.

Micky van de Ven’s brace and Pape Matar Sarr’s strike saw Tottenham secure a 3-0 victory over Everton on Sunday, October 26.

Thomas Frank’s men produced a complete performance at the Hill Dickinson stadium, which included defensive resilience and a ruthless edge in attack.

Spurs fans were wowed by the performance of Rodrigo Bentancur after the Uruguayan had struggled for form of late, while Jamie O’Hara praised Sarr as ‘outstanding’ despite questioning his happiness.

Thomas Frank praises ‘fantastic’ Kevin Danso

When captain Cristian Romero was struck down with a minor abductor injury before their defeat to Aston Villa, supporters knew Kevin Danso had to step up as his replacement.

Spurs have often struggled without Romero, with the Argentine international bringing exceptional aggression and leadership to Frank’s back line.

But Danso proved that he’s more than capable of performing in his teammates’ absence by making 18 clearances against Everton – the most of any Tottenham player since Jan Vertonghen in 2016 – while also winning all six of his duels.

Frank was unsurprisingly wowed by the Austrian’s display on Merseyside by claiming ‘every coach would love him’, while praising his aerial ability.

“I think he definitely deserves praise,” Frank said. “He’s stepped into the defence and needed to help the team. Every coach would love him. He’s a fantastic character and personality.

“Yesterday he was very good. I think he was good and calm on the ball. I think he had some strong battles with Beto and Barry up front. From crosses, but especially in the second half where they bombarded us a bit, it was like he had a magnet head. Everything went to him and he cleared it well, so he did well.”

Frank shares Cristian Romero update

As much as Danso has impressed in the last two Premier League matches, Spurs fans are eagerly waiting for their captain to return.

Luckily, Frank confirmed that Romero was back in training on Monday (October 27), although the Dane couldn’t give a timeframe on when he will return to the side.

“[Romero was] on the pitch today,” Frank said. “Not a timeframe, but on the pitch today. [Udogie was] on the pitch as well.”

With another international break on the horizon, perhaps Romero will be ready towards the end of November, giving Danso more opportunities to shine.

Spurs travel to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, October 29.
