Thomas Frank to be ‘very active’ in January window as Tottenham plan emerges

Tottenham’s owners will be doing what they can in January to support manager Thomas Frank bolster his squad.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes the ownership want to be seen as building for the long-term.

Frank has been under increasing scrutiny at Spurs from the supporters, but the club’s hierarchy are sticking by the Danish manager.

Spurs’ 2-0 win over Brentford was crucial for Frank, with the north London club recording their first victory at home in the Premier League since the opening day.

Thomas Frank to put ‘his own stamp’ on Spurs in January

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that Spurs must not make any rash decisions in relation to Frank’s future at the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness also states where Spurs must finish for Frank to keep his job at the end of the season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I do think the owners will want to show they’re not knee-jerk and they will want to see a longer-term strategy. I believe the executive team with Vinai [Venkatesham] have got enough experience to also not become knee-jerk and also to try and provide the tools going forward.

I think he’ll turn it around. I think in January we’ll see him active, very active in the window and I think that will be the start of him putting his own stamp on the playing squad and moving things forward. But no, this is one that they’ve got to stay the course, stick with him and things will start to turn around.

Let’s not forget where they finished last season and I think as long as he can finish in the European places, I think he’s going to finish somewhere around seventh or eighth, that is still my belief. And if he does that, then I think everybody will be happy and on we go. But now is not the time to lose your head. It’s time to stay calm and Spurs have got to move forward, but they’ve got to be active in January.”

Spurs chasing Brentford star

Tottenham are in the race to sign Igor Thiago from Brentford, who is also wanted by a number of fellow Premier League clubs.

The 24-year-old striker has had an impressive season at the Bees, netting 11 goals in 15 Premier League matches this season.

Frank may need to add a forward to his squad in January following Randal Kolo Muani’s injury blow against Brentford.
