Thomas Frank to ‘call in Howard Webb’ to address Cristian Romero concerns at Tottenham
Thomas Frank should bring Howard Webb to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Cristian Romero was sent off against Man United.
That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that Spurs must address concerns over their captain after a fourth Premier League red card.
No player has more red cards since his arrival in North London in 2021, and after leaving the field after just 29 minutes on Saturday, 7 February, Frank has been put under more pressure at Tottenham.
It has been suggested that Romero could be stripped of the Tottenham captaincy following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Old Trafford, especially after he lashed out at the board on social media.
Cristian Romero leaves Tottenham toothless vs Man United
Michael Carrick is working wonders at Old Trafford, but after the Lilywhites were reduced to 10 men in the first half, there was only ever going to be one winner, and it wasn’t Frank‘s team.
Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes both landed crucial blows against a weakened Spurs team, and the travelling supporters were absolutely furious with their captain for his first-half actions.
It was only late December when the centre-back was sent off against Liverpool, having lashed out at Ibrahima Konate in a 2-1 loss, with Xavi Simons already sent for an early bath in North London.

Now, there is a major debate online about how the manager should punish the player, and Hackett believes that sitting down with the head of the PGMOL could be one solution.
Thomas Frank to call on Howard Webb amid Romero fury
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former referee said: “With this particular player, the manager has got to sit him down and explain that there’s no excuse for what he’s doing.
“He’s putting his team down to 10 men. The first call is to the coaching staff and manager to get this guy in the right place, so that he understands what he can and can’t do.
“If the manager wants help, he should call in Howard Webb or one of his coaches, such as Hugh Dallas, to talk to the coaching staff and players.”
