Thomas Frank told he must resolve ‘huge’ Tottenham issue as new concerns emerge

Tottenham have enjoyed a strong start to life under Thomas Frank, but concerns are beginning to creep in as the season reaches full swing.

Spurs lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on 19 October, with Morgan Rogers and Emi Buendia finding the net after Rodrigo Bentancur put the hosts 1-0 up after just five minutes.

Frank‘s side are currently sixth in the league table, with four wins, two draws and two defeats in their first eight games off the back of last season’s disastrous league form.

However, they have won just one of their three home games in the league so far, while dropping points to the likes of Wolves, Bournemouth and Bodo/Glimt is an issue.

Despite the relative success of Frank’s tenure so far, some Tottenham fans have been left worried about lingering issues that have not quite been stamped out.

Thomas Frank told he must resolve new Tottenham concern

Tottenham have not kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since their 3-0 win against a struggling West Ham side in September, raising new concerns.

While Spurs have been widely praised for their form this season, their lack of consistency and defensive stability has made them vulnerable.

That is according to former Tottenham and Man United senior scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Frank must resolve Spurs’ inconsistency if he wants to win silverware.

I’m still a bit worried about Tottenham at the moment,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve had a strong start to the season all things considered, but there are a few huge issues they’ve had which really have to be dealt with.

“I think Thomas Frank is a top manager, and he’s done very well wherever he’s been.

“But there’s a nucleus of the Tottenham team which is always going to cause issues for them until something is done about it.

“On any given day, they can look as good as anybody and play you off the park, but they’re always there to be got at and they will give you chances.

“That’s something the manager has got to stamp out, because you can’t win silverware like that.

“We’ve seen it from Man City last season and Liverpool so far this season, if you give the opposition too many chances, it’s very difficult to win games consistently.

“It’s a problem for Tottenham and something they have to sort out, because it was clear to see again when they lost to Villa, they still have work to do.”

There is also a worrying statistic emerging following the defeat against Aston Villa, highlighting Tottenham’s struggles without Cristian Romero, with Spurs having won just 23 per cent (6/26) of their Premier League games without Romero.

Tottenham striker issues emerge amid ongoing concerns

Alongside their recent defensive concerns, there is also a growing issue at Tottenham regarding their lack of a regular goalscorer to lead the line.

Richarlison and Mathys Tel have shared the responsibility of being Spurs’ number nine so far this season after Dominic Solanke underwent surgery on an ankle injury.

However, more of Tottenham’s goals have come from the opposition scoring own goals than any other source so far this season, pointing to a clear issue in their side.

As a result, Football Insider revealed on 11 October that Porto striker Samu Aghehowa is on Tottenham’s radar, with scouts keeping a close eye on his performances.

Meanwhile, Tottenham were also linked with Harry Kane amid speculation that he could be set to leave Bayern Munich thanks to a release clause which becomes active in 2026.
