‘Thomas Frank’s first move is ending beloved Son Heung-min’s Tottenham career’
Thomas Frank’s first big Tottenham decision is likely to be ending Son Heung-min‘s glittering career at the club.
The Dane has left Brentford to sign a contract with Spurs running until June 2028.
Frank’s in-tray at Tottenham includes uncertainty over the future of the beloved club captain Son, who is a top target for Saudi Pro League clubs.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (10 June) that Spurs could go over their new bosses’ head and accept a “very lucrative” bid for Son.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has urged Frank to make a tough decision on Son’s future.
‘Son should go to kick off new regime at Tottenham’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested Son should be allowed to leave in order to kick off a “new regime” at Tottenham.
The South Korea icon, who is fifth in the club’s all-time scorers list, joined from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and is under contract until June 2026.
Wyness insisted Son would be a highly valuable asset for Saudi Arabia’s footballing project.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “He’s going to be 33 very soon.
“I think Spurs and Thomas Frank have got to look at bringing in a new regime, a new era. Son has been a superb servant to Spurs.
“They’ve created a big South Korean fan base and revenue stream. Now, I did talk about this last year that Spurs had been down there in Korea working effectively to try and turn a lot of those Son fans into Spurs fans and make them a bit stickier should Son leave.
“But I do think he’s going to go. The Saudi Pro League recognises the huge value also in the commercial value of Son for their global reach.
“I read an article the other day that they’re claiming three billion people have watched the Saudi Pro League and they’re also very keen on that international expansion.
“The whole reason as I can see it behind the Saudi Pro League and the investment in it has been to promote Saudi Arabia, its tourism industry and its whole visibility.
“Whether it’s sports washing, or whatever you want to call it, it’s certainly about creating a better vision of Saudi Arabia in the public eye.”

Tottenham preparing new Tel swoop
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (3 June) that Tottenham are preparing to return to the negotiating table with Bayern Munich in a bid to agree a cut-price permanent deal for Mathys Tel.
Sources say there is a willingness at Spurs to sign Tel, 20, despite his mixed loan with the club in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign.
He hit three goals and notched one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham during his loan.
