Thomas Frank’s odds of becoming next Celtic manager revealed after Tottenham sack

Thomas Frank has entered the race to replace Martin O’Neill at Celtic Park ahead of the 2026-27 season.

That is according to one major bookmaker, who believes the former Tottenham boss could move north of the border just weeks after being sacked from his role in North London.

O’Neill is a much-loved figure at Celtic, coming in for his second interim spell in as many months after Wilfried Nancy‘s tenure exploded after just eight games at the helm.

However, the 73-year-old has already made it clear that he has no intention of staying on beyond the end of the current campaign, despite winning eight of his 11 games during his second spell.

The Hoops are just three points behind Hearts in the Scottish Premiership title race, but after losing 4-1 to VfB Stuttgart in their Europa League round of 32 first leg, advancing in Europe seems unlikely.

Thomas Frank is in contention for the Celtic manager job

Unless Celtic can pip their rivals to the Scottish Premiership title, all supporters will view this season as a complete bust, with the squad in desperate need of proper leadership.

Given O’Neill’s honest stance on the permanent manager role, attention should have already turned to finding a long-term solution, with some wanting an emotional return of Ange Postecoglou.

It could be a different former Spurs boss who takes the reins, however.

Frank was replaced by Igor Tudor earlier this month, bringing an end to his eight months in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he won just 34 per cent of his matches.

The 52-year-old is now priced at 16/1 to be the Celtic manager come the start of the 2026-27 campaign, with several big names ahead of him in the race.

Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez remains the favourite at 7/4, with Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou slightly higher at 9/2.

What has Ange Postecoglou said about a return to Celtic Park?

Despite always speaking so positively about his former club, where he won back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles, he has already ruled out a dramatic return.

Speaking on The Overlap podcast, he said, “In terms of going back, I don’t go back. I don’t think that’s been my career,” so that has already given the club a straight answer.

It is unclear how supporters would feel about his return, given his life after leaving Celtic Park, but what is clear is that the Hoops need to find a solution before next season kicks off.

Many believe that O’Neill should stay on permanently, but like Postecoglou, he has made his feelings clear on the matter.
