Thomas Muller to Newcastle United: Club told to U-turn on transfer after journalist’s update – pundit
Newcastle United should steer clear of a move for Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Muller, according to Kevin Phillips.
The ex-Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said it would be “a big gamble” to sign the 32-year-old given where he is in his career.
According to Bild’s Christian Falk (26 January), the Magpies and Everton are interested in signing Muller this year.

The Germany international has entered the final 18 months of his contract with the Bundesliga giants and could exit this summer.
Phillips fears Muller would struggle defensively if he joined Newcastle or Everton.
“I don’t think he’d be a good signing,” he told Football Insider.
“For the money it would cost them, I think it’d be a big gamble.
“Coming to the Premier League from German football, at his age, I don’t think it would work.
“Bayern Munich dominate games every week. I’m not saying it’s easy for him but defensively he does not have to do that much. That would be very different at Newcastle.
“Thomas Muller sounds great on paper but if they really want to challenge at the top end of the league they need younger players.
“Muller five years ago – yes. But I don’t think it would be a good move now given where he is in his career.”
Muller has been in scintillating form this season.
He has contributed nine goals and 20 assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
