Thomas Partey expected to make Arsenal exit decision – ‘I’ve heard…’

Thomas Partey is out of contract at Arsenal in June and the club have left it to the last minute to open talks over a potential extension.

The 31-year-old midfielder joined the Gunners from Atletico Madrid in 2020 but remains first-choice for Mikel Arteta – even filling in at right-back this season.

The Athletic‘s David Ornstein has reported (23 April) that Arsenal are in talks with Partey over extending his stay at the club past this summer.

He has made 162 appearances for the Londoners, who are set to finish as runners-up in the Premier League for the third straight season.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are keen on a potential free transfer swoop for the Ghana captain.

PSG and Atletico Madrid want Partey, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed Partey is likely to leave if there is a two or three-year deal on offer elsewhere.

He has made 47 appearances across all competitions this term, scoring four goals and notching three assists.

Wyness claimed winning the Champions League with Arsenal could also change Partey’s mind.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I know Arsenal want him, but there are three or four others clubs who want him as well.

“He’s a decent player, he’s worth another year for Arsenal if he will take that deal.

“But I’ve heard Atletico Madrid are looking at taking him back, Paris Saint-Germain are also keen – there are no shortage of high-quality clubs in for him.

“If he can get a two or three-year deal somewhere else, he will go.

“I think winning the Champions League with Arsenal would put him in a mindset of wanting to stay with that squad.

“But I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move. It would be a shame, he’s a key part of the squad – and we know Mikel Arteta needs his squad to be bigger and stronger.”

Arsenal set sights on Gyokeres deal

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (21 April) that Arsenal have opened talks to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in an early summer deal.

Gyokeres is now the first-choice Arsenal striker target – following previous links with the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Victor Osimhen.

Andrea Berta is a big fan of the Sweden international forward, 26, and is now leading the pursuit.
