Thomas Tuchel may be urging Chelsea U-turn on Cristiano Ronaldo after £100m+ news

Thomas Tuchel may be urging Todd Boehly to bring Raphinha and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea over Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted the Raphinha and Sterling offer much more and it may be Todd Boehly driving the club’s interest in Ronaldo.

A Chelsea source told Football Insider earlier this week (7 July) that they are preparing a £14million bid for the 37-year-old who has made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The Independent reported earlier this week (6 July) that they are close to agreeing a deal with Man City for Raheem Sterling worth £45million plus a further £10million in add-ons.

The Evening Standard reported on Thursday (7 July) the Blues are in pole position to sign Raphinha from Leeds United after having a £55million bid accepted.

“For me, if you’re a Chelsea fan you would rather have Sterling and Raphinha over Ronaldo,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Sterling’s quick, he can press, score goals. Raphinha’s the same. They’ve got more legs.

“Ronaldo, yes, he scored goals last season but there were games where he offered nothing at all apart from getting a goal.

“I think Thomas Tuchel’s targets will be Sterling and Raphinha and maybe the owner is looking at it and thinking ‘I want a bit of Ronaldo at Chelsea’.

“It’s a bit of a strange one and it’s disappointing from Ronaldo. He’s definitely ruining his legacy to jump ship from a club he only joined last summer. It’s the Ronaldo show.”
