The Dutchman had a brief spell at Rangers during a glittering playing career and had great success as Ajax manager but things have turned sour recently with short and disastrous spells at Inter Milan and Crystal Palace, where he lasted only 10 weeks.
De Boer certainly fits the big name category that a lot of fans would like to see at Ibrox but may be damaged goods however after his recent managerial problems.
The appointment would still be a statement of intent though, that Rangers are perhaps serious contenders.
