Three clubs Celtic loanee Jahmai Simpson-Pusey could join in January after Man City latest

Man City youngster Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is being lined up for a Championship move as his ill-fated spell on loan at Celtic comes to a premature end.

Simpson-Pusey joined Celtic on loan from Man City in the recent summer window after he had broken into Pep Guardiola’s first team to feature five times in all competitions last season.

Things have certainly not gone to plan for the centre-back so far, despite the buzz around his arrival, with just the one senior appearance for the Hoops amid their poor form under Brendan Rodgers and Wilfried Nancy.

Fresh reports have stated that Simpson-Pusey is set to be recalled from Celtic as a result of his struggles, and may join a Championship side for the second half of the campaign.

Football Insider have looked at three second-tier teams who should look to sign the 20-year-old to bolster their defensive options from January onwards.

Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn‘s recent struggles have seen them slip towards the bottom three after a recent run of just one win in their last eight games.

Rovers lost Dom Hyam to Wrexham in the summer, as Valerien Ismael was left with a lack of senior options at centre-back for the campaign ahead.

The likes of Scott Wharton and Hayden Carter are both out injured right now, with youngster George Pratt handed numerous chances to start as a result.

They should be in the market for new centre-backs to give Ismael more options for his three-back formation, with Simpson-Pusey a smart option on loan as they face financial difficulties.

Norwich City

Norwich recently appointed Philippe Clement as their new manager after Liam Manning was sacked following a torrid first few months of his tenure.

Their form has improved since his arrival, but new defensive additions are certainly needed in January to help them out of the bottom three to safety from relegation.

Shane Duffy is out injured right now, while Jakov Medic has struggled since his summer arrival from Bochum, and so a new centre-back like Simpson-Pusey could be on the agenda for the former Rangers manager.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth‘s recent uptick in form has seen them move out of the bottom three into 21st place in the Championship.

John Mousinho has stuck by Regan Poole at centre-back this season, but none of Hayden Matthews, Conor Shaughnessy, Zak Swanson or Josh Knight have been able to nail down the position next to him in the backline.

Their desire to avoid relegation is sure to see some business done in January, and Pompey should look no further than Simpson-Pusey to sign him as a regular starter next to the former Man United youngster.
