Sources: West Brom, QPR and Reading in race to sign Liverpool star Leighton Clarkson

Liverpool loanee Leighton Clarkson is a target for West Brom, Reading and Queens Park Rangers this month after dazzling at Aberdeen, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder, 21, has impressed during his stint at the Scottish Premiership club and they are keen to keep hold of him for the remainder of the season.

Championship trio West Brom, Reading and QPR have all registered their interest in taking Clarkson for the second half of the campaign.

It would mean his loan with Aberdeen being terminated and him then signing a second loan deal.

However, the Dons are hopeful of fending off the growing interest in the England Under-20 international and to keep him at Pittodrie.

He has made a big impact for the Scottish outfit this term and scored some memorable long-range goals, including a brilliant volley against Rangers just before Christmas.

Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin has claimed his club could not be more pleased with Clarkson and do not want to lose him.

“We are really pleased with the progress he is making and Liverpool have kept really close tabs on him. They are delighted with his continued development, playing week in week out in the Scottish Premiership.

“He has been one of our better, more consistent players of the season. Leighton gives us that little creativity in the middle of the pitch. He is growing and growing from strength to strength I believe. Liverpool are delighted and are not looking to bring him back.”

Nevertheless, the Merseysiders could recall Clarkson and farm him out to a Championship club if they believe that would best serve his development.
