Three key matches Eddie Nketiah will miss as Oliver Glasner confirms Crystal Palace blow

Oliver Glasner will have to cope without Eddie Nketiah for three games after Crystal Palace got back to winning ways against Liverpool.

Palace knocked Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, 29 October, with Ismaila Sarr haunting Arne Slot once again with a brace before Yeremi Pino added a late third at Anfield.

Amara Nallo’s sending off really sealed the Reds’ fate against their bogey team, and despite the 3-0 win away from home, there remained a dark cloud of the Eagles after Nketiah was forced off with an injury.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is of interest to several Premier League clubs, and while he was resting on the bench, he was called upon early, replacing his striker partner during the half-time break.

Oliver Glasner confirms new blow to Eddie Nketiah

Nketiah was vital as Palace secured a late winner over Liverpool at the end of September, sending Selhurst Park wild in the seventh minute of added time after Federico Chiesa‘s equaliser.

However, Glasner spoke in his pre-match press conference about the centre-forward’s new setback, saying: “We had a scan [on Nketiah] yesterday. The result came back and was better than what our [original] concerns were.

“It’s a minor muscle injury. It looks like he’ll be back after the international break. So he will miss three games, but then he should be back. It’s a positive result from the scan.”

Of course, supporters would be far more concerned by an injury to Mateta or Sarr, given their impact on the team, but the former Arsenal man continues to come up with big moments.

Just three matches will be a huge relief for Glasner, especially given his ambitions in Europe this season, but there should be no rush to get him straight back into the action after the international break.
