Three Leeds players who will be key to the club mounting another promotion challenge
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Leeds finished the previous campaign slightly deflated but full of optimism after Garry Monk had guided them to within five points of the top-six.
The 38-year-old left the club in May, with the Yorkshire outfit appointing Thomas Christiansen as their new head coach earlier on this month.
Football Insider analyses which three players will be key to Leeds mounting another promotion challenge next term.
Chris Wood – The most important Leeds player during the 2016/17 season and he will be even more important next term. The New Zealand international struck 27 goals for the club last season and that sort of goal tally can boost any side in any league. It is key that Christiansen keeps Wood at the club this summer because he could help them reach that all-important top-six target.
Pontus Jansson – He moved to the club last summer and became an instant hit because of his hard-hitting playing style and passionate celebrations. With Kyle Bartley no longer at the club, Jansson will now become the main man at the back. Keep him fit and Leeds will have a better chance of keeping clean sheets and picking up valuable points next term.
Rob Green – The highly-experienced goalkeeper was an underrated figure during the previous campaign, with the likes of Wood, Jansson and Ronaldo Vieira standing out. Green’s calmness between the sticks, vital saves and leadership in the dressing room is important to the club as a whole.
In other Leeds news, the club has completed a deal for this 27-year-old.
