Meltdown begins: Three matches that could destroy Tottenham's season

COMMENT by Amir Mir

This time last season, Tottenham were seven points off eventual and surprise Premier League winners Leicester City.

They were also six points ahead of north London rivals Arsenal, with only five matches of the season remaining, only for the Gunners to overtake them on the last day.

Here, Football Insider takes a look at three matches that could once again reignite the nightmares of last term where the north London club mentally crumbled on the last hurdle.

Chelsea (FA Cup semi-final, April 22, Wembley)

This will be the first of many big tests for Tottenham in the final few months of the season and a game that could once again start their meltdown. This time last season, they were beaten at Stamford Bridge which handed the Foxes the Premier League title. Now, the Blues will be looking to knock them out of the FA Cup and once again get that nightmare ball rolling.

Arsenal (Premier League, April 30, White Hart Lane)

This is one match Spurs supporters will be looking to avoid defeat in, mainly because it will be their last match against their north London rivals at White Hart Lane. Furthermore, defeat here could see their neighbours make a late, yet unlikely charge up the table which could see Arsenal finish above Tottenham once again.

Manchester United (Premier League, May 13, White Hart Lane)

If Mauricio Pochettino’s side have suffered a number of defeats leading up to this fixture then they will no doubt crumble once again. Spurs will have to go into this match, full of confidence and form, else it could spell danger. This encounter will be the last game to be played at WHL and fans will be hoping for it to end in style.
