It is inevitable that Charlie Taylor will leave Leeds with a bitter taste in the mouth of those who supported him during his time at the club.
The 23-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, refused to play for the Yorkshire outfit during their final Championship match of the season on Sunday.
Here, Football Insider names three players Monk could target to replace Taylor and challenge Gaetano Berardi, who has impressed in that position in recent months.
Out of contract in the summer and a big name in the Premier League, who would add that experience and know-how to the Leeds backline. Considering the wages he is on, it will be difficult for the club to pull off a move for the three-time Premier League winner. But, considering he is most likely to leave City in the summer, a free transfer for Clichy should be looked into. Difficult, but ambitious.
A Leeds academy product, who was on loan at relegated Wigan this season but failed to get the game time he would have liked. The 23-year-old is highly rated at Everton and with the right coach, he would bring both attacking threat and defensive solidity to the team. Monk is the ideal coach for him and a loan move wouldn’t go a miss for the Toffees man.
The 19-year-old recently returned from a long-term injury and needs game time under his belt in order to get back to his best. Playing at Liverpool, it will be very difficult for him to play regular matches in the Premier League considering the manner in which James Milner has performed this term. A loan deal would do wonders for Leeds and the teenager would add that excitement and versatility that the Leeds backline needs.
In other Leeds news, Garry Monk has given an update on his future as his contract depends on one thing.
