Celtic’s 1-0 Europa League victory over Zenit was notable for a few things, one of them being how young the starting line-up was.
There was two 20-year-olds in Kieran Tierney and Eboue Kouassi, a 19-year-old in Kristoffer Ajer, a 23-year-old in Jozo Simunovic and a 21-year-old in Moussa Dembele.
If you include the substitute appearances of 21-year-old Charly Musonda and 20-year-old Odsonne Edouard you’ve got the backbone of a team who could be together for years to come.
Of course, the chances of that happening are rare, as it seems likely that Dembele will leave the club in the summer, Musonda and Edouard are loan signings and Simunovic’s long-term future at the club is in doubt.
However, there is still a nucleus of players for Brendan Rodgers to build on, that will hopefully be mainstays of the side for the next five years and beyond and can take the Hoops far in Europe.
