Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat against Hull on Saturday afternoon added to a poor run of form which has seen them win just one of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
It has been clear for the Reds for a number of years now that they have problems in both the defensive and goalkeeper areas, specifically the left-back position.
The versatile James Milner has seemingly been shoehorned into the position this campaign with Alberto Moreno proving hopeless at his defensive duties.
But, it is has become apparent that Liverpool need a more natural player in the role if they are to progress.
Here, Football Insider have identified three possible targets for Jurgen Klopp in the summer window.
Willems was strongly linked with Liverpool in the previous summer and Klopp should consider making a move in the next window.
At the age of just 22 the left-back has already played 183 times for PSV Eindhoven, providing a return of 12 goals and 22 assists.
He still has many years to grow while also boasting the experience of being a 22-time capped Holland international as well as winning the Eredivisie twice.
Willems is the youngest player to have ever played at the European Championships and with his contract set to expire in 2018 he could be signed on the cheap in the summer.
Kolasinac was linked with a move to Liverpool as recently as January, but he was also a target of other European powerhouses.
The 23-year-old is extremely versatile and can occupy the centre-back, defensive midfield and left-midfield positions as well as his usual left-back role.
The fact that he can play in the centre would suggest that he is adept at defending and he is known to be a very physical player.
He is still not the complete package at his age, but with his contract set to expire in the summer he should one of the first players Klopp moves for.
Monaco reportedly beat both Liverpool and West Ham to the signature of Mendy when they signed him in the summer of 2016.
The 22-year-old has proven to be a very worth addition to the Ligue 1 club and he has been one of the stars as Monaco sit at the top of the French league while also finishing in first place in their Champions League group.
With his contract set to expire in 2021 and having played in 20 fixtures in all competitions this season Mendy would certainly prove the most pricey of the three.
However, given Liverpool’s need for a left sided full-back the price should not be at the forefront of their minds.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the Reds are also in the race to sign this £10million-rated left-back.
