Three reasons why Leeds should re-sign 26-year-old Championship rock

Leeds should explore the possibility of re-signing Sheffield Wednesday’s Tom Lees after the defender scored against Newcastle on Saturday.
Lees, 25, left his boyhood club to join rivals Wednesday in the summer of 2014, angering fans in the process.
Risking potential backlash from the Elland Road faithful, here are three reasons why Leeds would finally win over fans if he was to return to the Yorkshire giants.
Future of 25-year-old
Kyle Bartley has starred at centre-back for Leeds this season and has even donned the captain’s armband in the absence of midfielder Liam Bridcutt. However, the 25-year-old Swansea loanee only remains at Elland Road on a temporary basis with no permanent deal yet to be confirmed by Leeds, despite the club bringing in Sweden international Pontus Jansson permanently. That could see the former Birmingham defender return to the Liberty Stadium, leaving Leeds short at centre-back and Lees would be a very welcome signing.

Starring at the back in Carlos Carvalhal’s side, Lees is one of the first names on the team sheet for the Owls. Making 31 appearances this season, the commanding defender’s progress was only halted because of a knee problem that saw him miss nine league games between February and March. During those 31 outings, Lees has kept an impressive 12 clean sheets and that defensive sturdiness could be a huge asset back at his first club, whether it be in the Premier League or the Championship.
Three points behind Leeds in sixth, Wednesday are fighting for a place in the play-offs as they look to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2000. With Fulham breathing down their necks in seventh and only two points behind Lees’ side, the Owls could miss out on a shot at promotion. Leeds are in a stronger position and are likely to secure their play-off place with games against struggling Burton, Wolves and Wigan to come. If Lees wants to ply his trade in the top tier of English football, he might well be tempted by a return to Elland Road.
