Three reasons why Garry Monk should swap Leeds for Rangers

Six months after turning a sleeping giant in Leeds into a team on the road back to the Premier League, the man behind the success is now being looked at by other clubs.

The Daily Mail claim that Whites manager Garry Monk and out-of-work boss Gary Rowett are possible candidates to take over the vacant post at Rangers.

Here Football Insider debates the three reasons why Monk should swap the second-tier Yorkshire club and move up north to the Glasgow giants.

A chance to win league titles at a higher level – After a chaotic few seasons Rangers are back in Scotland’s top flight and looking to break the dominance of their bitter rivals Celtic. Monk would see his reputation rise even further if he can achieve this feat and guide the club to their 55th league title. The best Monk can achieve with Leeds is promotion back to the Premier League. That in itself would be a great achievement, but his CV would look even more impressive if he can add a league title to his name.

European football – Winning the SPL title would see the champions be given the chance to compete in Europe’s elite and now arguably the biggest club competition in the world, the Champions League. Monk has never managed at that level before and compared with Leeds his best chance to do so would be with the Gers. As experienced by Celtic, playing against the likes of Barcelona is a great experience, beating them would increase his stature in Europe.

Hone his managerial skills – Monk has managed in the Premier League with Swansea and is now with Leeds in the Championship. Moving to the Scottish club will help enhance his managerial skills because of the pressure he would have to work under. At Elland Road, there are still expectations, but supporters are willing to be patient and allow Monk to slowly rebuild the club. Whereas, at Ibrox, as proven with Warburton, fans want the club challenging for the title.
