Returning to the Premier League could be a real possibility for Leeds next season and they will need to be prepared for the rollercoaster ride that will lie ahead.
Striker Chris Wood is the main man for Garry Monk up front, but if the Whites earn promotion, his presence alone will not be enough for the brutal campaign in England’s top flight.
Here, Football Insider looks at three strikers Monk could sign in the summer if the club earns promotion.
With promotion comes the financial benefits England’s top flight brings. The Yorkshire club already have the big name stature and added with the money they can attract the big name players. Currently at Crystal Palace, Christian Benteke would be an ideal fit for the club. The money may be on the high side, but the aerial quality he brings suits Monk’s play and he should be a player they should target.
Sunderland look like they are heading to the Championship and Leeds should pounce on their main man, Jermain Defoe. Despite his team sitting rock-bottom in the league, he has scored 14 goals for the club. Defoe’s ability to finish from any angle, run off defenders, would complement the club’s star man, Wood.
At this moment in time, the Liverpool striker is currently out with an injury and will be looking for regular football at the start of next season. The 24-year-old will be eager to produce his best form and going out on loan could perhaps be the best option. Monk should sign up the talented forward because he has experience of scoring goals for recently-promoted teams. Not only that, Monk would then have the squad depth and extra firepower up front.
