Summer signing all over the place: Three things learned about Leeds from triumph against Burnley
COMMENT By Editor Wayne Veysey
Leeds United’s remarkable start to the season continued at Turf Moor as they eliminated Premier League big guns Burnley from the League Cup.
United were twice on course for normal-time triumph after late goals from Hadi Sacko and Pablo Hernandez appeared to have secured a last-16 berth.
But Burnley fought back on both occasions, through old boy Chris Wood from the penalty spot and then Robbie Brady’s incredible 97th minute free-kick equaliser.
But Thomas Christiansen’s men kept afloat during a nervy extra-time and then were coolness personified as they triumphed 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Pablo Hernandez, Mateusz Klich, Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski all converted from the spot and goalkeeper Andy Lonergan saved from James Tarkowski to win the tie for his side.
