Newcastle United were on the wrong end of a narrow one-goal clash on Saturday as they slipped to defeat away at Arsenal.

The Magpies came into the clash off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Everton in midweek, which extended their winless run to eight games, which themselves had resulted in just one point for the Magpies.

They also were looking to end a terrible streak against the Gunners themselves, which had seen Arsene Wenger’s men win in each of the last nine games between the two sides.

However they found themselves behind halfway through the first half, with Mesut Ozil’s sublime volley from just inside the box rocketing past Rob Elliot and into the back of the net.

Despite a brave performance the Magpies were unable to find an equaliser against Arsene Wenger’s men, with the result leaving the club languishing just one place above the relegation zone.
