Newcastle United saw their winless run extend to six consecutive matches after they were easily swept aside by Chelsea in a 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The Magpies took the lead against the Blues thanks to a poachers effort from Dwight Gayle, last season’s top scorer stabbing home into an empty net after the ball had deflected his way following Thibaut Courtois’ save.
However they were only able to hold their lead for eight minutes, Eden Hazard netting with a scuffed shot which bounced past Karl Darlow in the Newcastle net.
Alvaro Morata turned the game on its head with his own header before the half time break, with Hazard netting his second goal of the game with a penalty after the half time break.
The result means Newcastle have not tasted victory in any of their last six matches, five of which have come as defeats, as they continue their slide down the Premier League table after what had appeared to be a bright start to their return to the Premier League.
