Magpies need to make their own luck

While the Magpies went into half time 1-0 down, it certainly was not the worst half of football that St James’ Park have seen.

Benitez’s men were bright for periods, dominating possession as they looked for a way past the Everton rearguard, and it was only a mistake that led to the Toffees taking the lead.

They hit the post twice while passed up some opportunities which should have at least have tested Jordan Pickford between the sticks, but luck did not fall their way.

However, they cannot rely on luck to get them out of their slump, and it is up to the players to start making their own fortune if they are to avoid a relegation battle this season.
