Benitez gets tactics (nearly) spot on

Unlike in recent weeks, Newcastle were able to see much more of the ball against Everton, and that came down to the tactics of Rafa Benitez.

His midfield trio of Mikel Merino, Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame worked in most part for the 90 minutes, although the latter left something to be desired when attacking.

They were able to pass and move comfortably against the Toffees, something which would have made much of the Newcastle faithful happy to see after a couple of disappointing displays.

It is not quite the finished product – Diame clearly lacks the quality of his midfield counterparts – but it is a step forward from recent displays.
