Attacking star must be axed: Three things learned about Newcastle from draw v Liverpool

COMMENT By Russell Edge

Newcastle United came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool on Sunday in a competitive clash.

Phillipe Coutinho stunned St James’ Park and sent the travelling Liverpool fans into raptures with a stunning strike from over 20 yards to give Jurgen Klopp’s side the lead in the first half.

However, Newcastle striker Joselu grabbed a somewhat fortunate equaliser after being released by a Jonjo Shelvey pass, with Joel Matip’s tackle rebounding off the Spanish forward and rolling past Simon Mignolet in the Reds’ net.

As a result both sides leave with a point, moving Newcastle up to ninth on 10 points, while Liverpool slipped to seventh to go level on points with sixth placed Burnley and eighth placed Watford.

So what can fans take away from Newcastle’s performance?
