Football Insider analyses the three talking points as West Ham were beaten 2-0 against Manchester United at the London Stadium on Monday evening.
Time to sell Dimitri Payet
The January transfer window is open and it is an ideal time for West Ham to make changes within their squad. Selling their star attacker would be beneficial to both parties as it allows the Hammers to invest in more players and it allows Payet to leave the club. He was sacrificed for Andy Carroll in the defeat to United as the home team were down to ten men. In the overall picture, Slaven Bilic’s side need more quality at the back, in the middle and up front, selling Payet would help them add and invest in those players.
Atmosphere needs to be replicated
Despite the defeat and the sending off, the home fans got behind their team who gave their all during the game. Since the Hammers have moved to the London Stadium from the Boleyn ground a lot has been made of their new home. But if they can replicate the atmosphere they produced against Jose Mourinho’s side then their home form will improve.
Michail Antonio needs to improve his finishing
Prior to the away side scoring their opening goal, Michail Antonio missed a glaring chance when one on one with the goalkeeper. David de Gea deserves credit for keeping the ball out, but Antonio did hit the ball straight at the shot stopper, in what proved to be a crucial moment during the game. England international Antonio possesses all the attributes from speed, trickery and strength – if he can improve his end quality then he can become a top quality player.
In other West Ham news, this international midfielder has signed after terms were agreed.
