Three things Wilfried Nancy did that you may have missed in Celtic vs Livingston, including clash with fourth official

Wilfried Nancy notched his second win as Celtic manager as his team recovered to beat Livingston 4-2 on Saturday.

Benjamin Nygren struck a double alongside goals from Hyun-Jun Yang and Arne Engels, as the visitors overcame an early Cristian Montano brace to emerge on top after a six-goal first half.

Nancy has been vilified by Celtic fans for the poor results that have followed his arrival at the club, and he was the centre of attention once again at the Set Fare Arena this weekend.

The captivating and chaotic events on the pitch were gripping for the supporters in attendance at the game, and with that in mind, Football Insider rounds up three things that Nancy did that may have been missed by the Celtic faithful.

Wilfried Nancy evokes tactics board memories

Nancy was seriously ridiculed at Celtic during his first games in charge, and one moment that drew a lot of mockery from fans came in the defeat to Hearts in his first assignment as boss.

The Frenchman was captured by the Sky Sports cameras using a handheld tactics board while sitting in the dugout during a game, and he produced a similar moment during the victory over Livingston.

Nancy was shown writing down notes in a small notepad shortly after Celtic equalised for a second time in a scarcely believable opening period.

The 48-year-old’s points clearly had an effect, as he watched his team open up a commanding two-goal lead before the half-time interval.

Nancy held back by the fourth official

Nancy’s style of football is under scrutiny at Celtic at the moment after some shoddy early results, but his enthusiasm for football simply cannot be faulted.

Livingston never truly looked likely to find a way back into the game throughout the second period, but that didn’t stop the boss from willing his team on to try and further gloss to the scoreline.

The ex-Columbus Crew chief brought a constant energy to the touchline on Saturday, and that was even prevalent in the 92nd minute, when he had to be guided back away from the pitch by Graham Grainger.

Commentator Gary Weaver noted during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game that Nancy was passionately urging his men forward in a bid to find a fifth goal.

Plenty of his mannerisms have been criticised by the Celtic fans so far, but if he displays that level of hunger more often, then it will surely help to begin to win people over.

Nancy was subdued after Benjamin Nygren screamer

All eyes have been on Nancy since his arrival at Celtic, with his every move scrutinised heavily.

His team certainly didn’t make the ideal start to Saturday’s game, and the boss’ understanding of that was clear to see when Nygren’s screamer put them ahead immediately after the half-hour mark.

The Swede arrowed a stinging shot into the top left corner via the inside of the post, and it was a goal that was enough to make any manager sprint down the touchline.

However, Nancy showed a level of awareness over the game situation, as he was captured by the TV cameras looking far more subdued than he had at other stages during his reign so far.

He appears to have a strong understanding that there are moments to show passion as a manager, but the moment after taking the lead against the league’s bottom team isn’t one of them.
