Celtic went into their Europa League tie with Zenit as underdogs to Roberto Mancini’s big spending side, but the Hoops made a mockery of that with a dominant performance in the first leg of the last 32 encounter.
Callum McGregor’s late goal secured a 1-0 victory which was thoroughly deserved, as the side currently second in the Russian league failed to cope with the incessant pressure applied by the Bhoys.
It is thought that Mancini’s side won’t be as poor in Thursday’s second leg, and will provide a far tougher test, but Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers will be looking at how easy the Bhoys found it to dominate the match with great encouragement.
If the Bhoys are to pull off the aggregate victory, they must force their opponents into the mistakes they made a week ago in Glasgow.
They must take advantage of the apparent weak links that Zenit seem to have in their side.
