Three Wolves matches Vitor Pereira could miss as ex-PGMOL chief reveals potential extent of ban
Wolves’ head coach Vitor Pereira was sent off in bizarre circumstances as his side drew late on against Brighton.
It was the host’s second point of the season, a week after Wolves drew with Tottenham to pick up their first point in the Premier League.
Wolves took on Brighton, and Fabian Hurzeler’s side were looking to build on their 3-1 victory away at Chelsea last time out.
Pereira was sent off early in the first half, with Jarred Gillett taking issue with something the Portuguese head coach had said.

Ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett reveals the extent of Vitor Pereira’s ban
Pereira was shown a straight red card by Gillett, and the head coach now looks to spend several weeks on the sidelines.
Speaking exclusively to Fooball Insider, the former chief of the PGMOL, Keith Hackett, has revealed the extent of Pereira’s potential ban.
Hackett said: “The Laws of the Game are specific with regard to what is a red card- sending off offence for something said towards a match official.
“Given the video clip, it appears to me that the manager has used offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or action(s).
“Hence red card and a possible three-match touchline ban,” Hackett finished.
The three games Vitor Pereira could miss with his touchline ban
Wolves’ head coach will now prepare to face a three-game touchline ban, pending the decision not being overturned on appeal from the West Midlands club.
Pereira couldn’t miss two bigger matches in the first two weeks of his ban for Wolves as they face relegation rivals Sunderland and Burnley on the other side of the international break.
Wolves’ next five fixtures | Competition |
Sunderland vs Wolves | Premier League |
Wolves vs Burnley | Premier League |
Wolves vs Chelsea | Carabao Cup round of 16 |
Fulham vs Wolves | Premier League |
Chelsea vs Wolves | Premier League |
After that crucial run, Wolves will play Chelsea in the last 16 round of the Carabao Cup, capping off a tricky time to be without their head coach.
Pereira will hope his ban can be reduced or wiped off on appeal, because if Wolves are poor across this run, their season could be all but over before it’s even started.
