Everton fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Fernando Llorente grabbed the only goal of the game as he nodded home after 29 minutes, despite the attentions of Phil Jagielka.
The result means Swansea climb out of the bottom three with two games left to play, while Everton remain stuck in seventh.
It was an afternoon to forget for the Toffees, but here are their three worst performers.
The 34-year-old has spent time out of the side at the start of the season, but following Ramiro Feunes Mori’s injury Ronald Koeman has had no choice but to play him. The former England star was poor against Swansea and did not deal with Llorente’s threat at all. Jagielka was arguably at fault for the Spaniard’s goal too, needing to be stronger to hold him off. Llorente dominated him in the air throughout the match and in truth Jagielka looked well out of his depth. If Everton really want to challenge for the top-four next season this old-timer must be cut loose.
The Belgian looked short of ideas for the entire 90 minutes. He made a bright start to the game and worked hard, but he continuously ran away from his support, resulting in him losing the ball too much. He simply did not do enough to link up with star man Romelu Lukaku, or any of the Toffees other attackers for that matter. Mirallas is one of Koeman’s best attacking players but he must do more for his side – he is 29-years-old and should be at the peak of his career. But a return of just four goals in 33 Premier League appearances shows that his inadequacy against Swansea was not a one-off – he has been poor all year.
This might be slightly harsh on the 20-year-old, but the fact he was hauled off at the break speaks volumes. Everton were poor as a whole in the first 45 and he was the worst of the lot. Calvert-Lewin could not get on the ball at all while he was on, and because of Swansea’s high press he could not get in behind their defence either, leaving his threat neutralised. There is certainly a lot more to come from the youngster but there cannot be many more performances like the one he put in today if he is to make it at Everton.
