Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood says Spurs forward Son Heung-min deserves to be in the starting line-up every week.
Son scored his third Premier League goal of the season on Saturday as Mauricio Pochettino’s side drew 1-1 with Watford at Vicarage Road.
The 25-year-old has been in good form this term, following on from last campaign where he scored 14 goals and delivered nine assists in 34 Premier League appearances.
However, the South Korean has only played for a full 90 minutes twice in the Premier League this season.
Former Tottenham manager Sherwood, who was replaced by Pochettino in 2014, believes Son deserves to start every week ahead of Moussa Sissoko.
“Son had a great run of games, especially when Harry Kane was injured last season and he scored – he stepped up,” Sherwood told BT Sport.
“He’s been in and out, he hasn’t really had a run. For me the kid has to play every week, I think he scores goals and I would find a place in that team ahead of Sissoko all day long.
“But I’m not the manager and Pochettino is doing a fantastic job with that club taking it forward, but they need to be in the top-four.
“They cannot go into a new stadium out of the top-four, that would be an absolute disaster for them.”
Tottenham made a fantastic start to the season under Pochettino, but a poor run of results has seen them slip to sixth place in the Premier League table.
Spurs have lost three of their last six Premier League games and are without a win in their last four. The 1-1 draw against Marco Silva’s Watford has left them four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool in the race for Champions League qualification.
Pochettino’s side have competed for the Premier League title in each of the past two seasons, but their title challenge this year is all but over.
If Premier League leaders Manchester City beat West Ham United tomorrow, Spurs will be 18 points behind them in the title race.
In other Tottenham news, Pochettino has heaped praise on this Spurs player for his performance against Watford.
