Tim Steidten: Significant West Ham update today from top source
West Ham technical director Tim Steidten is facing growing pressure after the performances of the club’s new signings, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that pressure on both Steidten and Julen Lopetegui is mounting after a slow start to the season for the Hammers.
Several of the club’s summer signings have failed to make an impact in Lopetegui’s first-team so far, leading to questions about the recruitment at the London Stadium.
This comes after the Hammers board backed the manager to the tune of £132.5million in the transfer market, completing big deals such as the £40million signing of Max Kilman.
Football Insider reported on 21 September that the West Ham decision-makers remain confident Lopetegui can succeed once his new signings adapt.
However, there is a feeling at the London Stadium that the signings will need more time to gel with the manager’s system before any judgements are made.
After just five games in the Premier League season, the board are prepared to be patient before leaping into any rash decisions about the boss and his signings.
Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui facing growing pressure at West Ham
Football Insider revealed on 24 September that Steidten had entered the firing line of the club’s chiefs following the slow start to the season.
The technical director was given the instructions to oversee an overhaul of the playing squad following David Moyes’ departure at the end of last season.
West Ham’s defence was a key area, which was addressed by the arrivals of Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while Guido Rodriguez was signed to strengthen the midfield.
Crysencio Summerville, Luis Guilherme and Niclas Fullkrug were also signed to boost the team’s attacking potential, but have yet to hit the ground running.
Meanwhile, regular fixtures in Moyes’ squad such as Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd were allowed to leave the club to make way for the new signings.
Such a substantial overhaul is expected to take time to gel, but after a poor start to the season for many of the new arrivals, the board are beginning to question Steidten.

As pressure continues to grow on Lopetegui’s position as manager, fingers behind the scenes are beginning to be pointed at Steidten, with the weight of expectation heavy on his new signings.
