Todd Boehly prepared to sack Thomas Tuchel as ‘big’ Chelsea claim issued – pundit

Todd Boehly will sack Thomas Tuchel if Chelsea do not get off to a good start in 2022-23, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Tuchel must bridge the gap between Chelsea and Man City and Liverpool.

As per the Athletic earlier this month (22 June), the Blues confirmed that Boehly is the interim sporting director as they announced transfer chief Marina Granovskaia will leave her role at the end of the transfer window.

They then confirmed in a club statement earlier this week (27 June) that Petr Cech has left his role as technical and performance advisor.

“I really don’t mind Todd Boehly being the interim sporting director,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“If I own a football club and my money is going into a football club I’d want to make these big decisions. I’d be exactly the same, I want to be in charge, I want to decide what players we’re getting.

“There’s no reason why he can’t do it and I’m sure he’s got people close to him advising him.

“Only time will tell if Petr Cech going and other changes are going to be a good thing or a bad thing.

“Thomas Tuchel should be under pressure. Not because of a new owner, because of last season.

“Chelsea cannot be so far behind Liverpool and Man City in the Premier League table, that’s not acceptable for Chelsea football club.

“During my era, they were the dominant team, the John Terry, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole years. They need to be up there.

“Yes, there’s talk of Sterling, yes, there’s talk of Raphinha so if they get two deals over the line they will be closer to Man City and Liverpool.

“It’s a big season for Thomas Tuchel. If he has a season like last season he won’t last. This owner will not mess around, he will be the one who says ‘Thomas Tuchel, that’ll do for you, I’m making the decision and you’re not closing the gap to Liverpool and Man City, you can go’.”
