Tom Cairney reacts to surprise Neymar claim at Fulham

Tom Cairney has responded to young Fulham star Josh King after the midfielder made a major statement about his “idol”.

King has broken into the Fulham first-team this season, having been at the club since the age of eight.

The England U19 international came off the bench and gave a good performance in the Whites’ victory over Watford in the FA Cup.

Rodrigo Muniz opened up the scoring for the Cottagers with a well-taken effort, before Watford equalised after Rocco Vata scored a spectacular long-range strike.

However, after half-time, Fulham ramped up the pressure on the Hornets, and they were unable to deal with it as the Whites scored three second-half goals to win the tie 4-1.

King gave a good account of himself and is held in very high-regard at Craven Cottage.

Tom Cairney continues to look after Fulham youngster Josh King

Cairney has been a stalwart at Fulham since joining in 2015 from Blackburn Rovers and has gone on to make over 300 appearances for the club.

Following the retirement of Scott Parker, Cairney was named club captain in 2017, and it has proved to be an excellent decision.

This is not the first time that the Fulham midfield duo have made headlines, as a photo of King being lead out as a mascot next to Cairney emerged ahead of the Whites’ tie against Southampton (22 December). [The Sun]

King had revealed his first footballing idol a number of years ago was his Cottagers teammate ahead of Brazilian superstar Neymar as his second.

Scottish international, Cairney, responded to King’s post on Instagram showing a development plan from his time in the academy by saying “😂😂me and ney ney you know your players broski 😭.”

This January transfer window is set to be a key one for Fulham, who look poised to make a run at European qualification, but will need to hang-on to key players like Antonee Robinson who has been linked with an exit.

The Whites have been linked with Manchester City’s James McAtee, as reported by Football Insider, as a potential replacement for Andreas Pereira if the Brazilian leaves the club.

In other news, Fulham may be signing a Liverpool player this January.
