Tommy Wright issues warning to Celtic ahead of St Johnstone clash

By Danny Wright

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has warned Celtic that he his side have the ability to pull off surprise results ahead of their meeting at McDiarmid Park this weekend.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are currently on a historic unbeaten run in domestic competition, having avoided defeat in their last 62 matches against Scottish sides.

However that hasn’t stopped Saints boss Wright from bigging up his side’s chances ahead of Saturday’s Premiership encounter.

“We still go into Saturday’s game thinking we can win,” Wright said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“We have always been capable of throwing up surprise results and Saturday is no different.”

Celtic will go to St. Johnstone weekend looking to make amends after failing to win in their last two outings against Bayern Munich and Kilmarnock.

The draw with Killie last week saw Aberdeen catch back up with the Bhoys at the top of the table as Rodgers’ side are yet to really pull away from the chasing pack as easy as they did last year.

Wright’s side are sixth in the table ahead of their game against the Scottish champions and have been in a rough patch of form after a decent start.

The Saints have failed to win in their last five games, losing to the likes of Aberdeen, Rangers and most recently Partick Thistle.

The Hoops beat St Johnstone in all four league games against them last term, scoring a stunning 14 goals in those games.

In other Celtic news, Peter Lawwell has been in contract talks with this Hoops first-teamer.
