Tony Cascarino: Liverpool should have signed this England international

By Danny Wright

Tony Cascarino has said that Liverpool should have signed Joe Hart on loan from Manchester City at the start of the season.

He believes that Jurgen Klopp could have also acted in the January transfer window and may regret his inaction.

The England intentional goalkeeper is currently on loan at Torino after he fell out of favour of Pep Guardiola and was replaced by Claudio Bravo in the starting 11.

Yet Klopp has struggled to decide who is his number one and continues to rotate between Simon Mignolet and summer-recruit Loris Karius.

Cascarino said to The Times: “The top clubs don’t seem to like using the loan market.

“Jurgen Klopp clearly isn’t happy with his two goalkeepers — Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet have struggled at different times this season.

“He didn’t take Joe Hart on loan when he had the chance and he failed to act in January too. It could cost Liverpool.”

Mignolet was at the centre of attention twice in a week as he fumbled the ball to allow Hull to open the scoring in his sides 2-0 loss on Saturday.

In the previous match he was caught off-guard by a quickly taken David Luiz free-kick for Chelsea.

Hart was widely criticised after a terrible performance for England against Iceland at Euro 2016 and wasn’t allowed a chance of redemption at the Etihad Stadium.

Since moving to Torino, the 29-year-old has made 21 Serie A appearances, conceded 29 goals and kept five clean sheets.

Liverpool have leaked 30 goals in the Premier League this season and have conceded more than the likes of West Bromwich Albion (29) and relegation candidates Middlesbrough (27).
