Tony Cascarino: This is who Aston Villa will buy in the summer
By Harry Sykes
Tony Cascarino has claimed that Steve Bruce will sign the players he wants at Aston Villa during the summer transfer window to take the team to new heights.
Villa have spent heavily on new signings in the last two windows following their relegation from the Premier League.
The players have struggled to gel in what has been a disappointing Championship campaign but there is growing optimism at Villa Park following the excellent run of form over the last month.
The Midlands giants have climbed up the table after winning seven of their last eight league fixtures, including four consecutive victories.
Villa’s run might prove too late to secure a last-ditch play-off spot – they are nine points adrift of sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday with six matches of the campaign remaining – but high profile pundit Cascarino, who spent a year at the club in the 1990s, believes the team have huge potential.

“Steve has gone in there and recognised that there has been a lot of problems. I think it’s a slow burner with Brucie at Villa but I do believe that next year they will have a very good side,” Cascarino said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
“It will be a big summer and he’ll get the people in he wants. It’s an attractive club to play for, Villa is a fantastic football club to go and play for and they have to use that to their advantage to create a very good team next year.
“With your recruitment, Villa have got it disastrously wrong. If you get that right then next season they’ll be fine.”
Villa are next in action on Saturday when they travel to relegation-threatened Burton Albion, who are four points above the drop zone.
In other Aston Villa news, a defender has quit Villa Park and already agreed terms with another club.
