Tony Cottee: 29-year-old West Ham ace will leave if this does not happen
By Will Butcher
Tony Cottee believes Dimitri Payet will leave West Ham if their form does not improve in the near future.
The 29-year-old has failed to replicate last season’s form that saw him score 12 goals in 39 games for the Hammers from midfield, as they finished seventh in the Premier League.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily Show on Tuesday morning, Cottee revealed that Payet could leave in January or in the summer if the Hammers’ position in the table doesn’t recover.
“Payet looks a frustrated a figure,” Cottee claimed. “He gets the ball and looks up and there’s little support for him. No, he’s not playing as well as last year, but he’s still the best they have.
“If West Ham can’t win games in the near future, then he will leave in this window or in the summer. He knows he’s a good player and he is capable of playing with better players.”

The Hammers currently sit in 13th position in the Premier League, with just six wins in their 20 domestic encounters under Slaven Bilic this season.
France international Payet was rested on Friday night and watched from the substitutes’ bench in horror as the east London side were humiliated by Manchester City in the FA Cup.
Pep Guardiola’s side won 5-0 at the London Stadium, and it is that kind of form that Cottee is alluding to which could see Payet become disillusioned in claret and blue.
This season, the former Marseille star has scored just three goals in 22 league and cup appearances for West Ham, but has provided eight assists.
Payet will be hoping to turn his side’s fortunes around on Saturday as they welcome Crystal Palace to east London.
In other West Ham transfer news, the Hammers should sign this out-of-favour Arsenal ace to kick start their 2016-17 campaign.
