Tony Dorigo tears into Charlie Taylor on Twitter after refusing to play for Leeds

By Harvey Byrne

Former defender Tony Dorigo has torn into current ace Charlie Taylor on Twitter after the player’s refusal to play for Leeds against Wigan on Sunday afternoon.

The Yorkshire giants made the trip to Lancashire on Sunday as they took on Wigan at the DW Stadium for their final game of the 2016-17 Championship campaign.

However, they were without left-back Taylor in their 18-man matchday squad and it has since been revealed that the 23-year-old refused to play.

This has led to much anger from those associated with the club and of those includes ex-England international Dorigo, who played for Leeds for six years between 1991 and 1997.

The now 51-year-old told his followers via his personal Twitter account on Saturday afternoon that it was a “shockingly naive” decision, while he also called for the player to show some class and respect for the fans and club.

Taylor broke through the Leeds academy and marked his debut for the club aged 17 in August 2011 in an substitute display against Bradford in the League Cup.

He has since totalled 104 appearances for the club, but with reported Premier League interest alongside his contract expiring this summer it is clear that his head has been turned.

In other Leeds news, Kyle Bartley’s mum has sent a message to the club’s supporters after the draw with Wigan.
