Tony Gale believes the pressure of attempting to keep up with Premier League leaders Chelsea proved too much and showed in their loss against West Ham.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a 1-0 loss at the London Stadium on Friday night, reducing their chances of leapfrogging Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.
Grading Premier League teams for their display over the weekend, former West Ham and Fulham star Gale gave Tottenham a B minus and claimed the pressure got to them.
“Spurs only created a couple of chances and looked a bit flat, I don’t know why,” Gale claimed on Sky Sports. “Perhaps the nervousness of the title race finally caught up with them.”
Spurs managed just 11 attempts on goal during the London derby in Stratford, as Pochettino’s side suffered only their fourth loss of the season.
Tottenham are now four points behind Antonio Conte’s side, who have a game in hand over Spurs against Middlesbrough on Monday night.
With only three games left to play for Spurs, the north London side may have to win all three remaining fixtures and hope Chelsea monumentally slip in their final four matches.
Chelsea will be expected to go seven points clear, as they face Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge after winning 14 of their 16 league games in west London.
Next up for Spurs is a tricky clash against Jose Mourinho’s Man United in what will be the last fixture played at White Hart Lane.
