Tony Xia reveals that four players will be told to leave Aston Villa this week
By Amir Mir
Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has informed supporters that up to four players will be told this week that they have no future at the club.
Manager Roberto Di Matteo has been vocal about the need to trim his large squad as he looks to add quality to his team ahead of the forthcoming Championship season.
Chinese Tycoon Xia took to his personal Twitter account on Sunday night to tell supporters a new signing will arrive when the 29-man squad is cut short.
“Trimming is needed & then will be new signings till window closes,” Xia posted on his personal Twitter account. “3-4 be informed next week to farewell the old days.”
It is not yet known which players will leave the club, but the supporters will be pleased to hear the news as they hope to see the back of the underperformers from the club’s humiliating relegation last season.
Meanwhile, the senior trio of Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards and Gabby Agbonlahor missed the club’s friendly win over French side Nantes on Saturday afternoon, though it has been reported by the Birmingham Mail that they missed the trip due to injury.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, the Midlands club will battle with their Championship rivals for this international target man.
