Top-flight club plot mega swoop for Tottenham £60m-rated ace, move likely - report

Manchester City are likely to move for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld next summer if he has not signed a new contract, according to a report.
The Sun claim that Manchester City are keen on the 28-year-old and view him as the long-term successor to Vincent Kompany.
It is understood that the centre-back is currently in a stand-off with Spurs over his contract and that has alerted several Premier League giants.
The report details that the Belgium international is valued at £60million and is considered to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
The centre-back is currently under contract with the North London club until 2020, but adviser Stijn Francis has claimed “he deserves either a correct contract from Spurs or a transfer”.

Alderweireld has become a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI and formed a brilliant partnership alongside compatriot Jan Vertonghen in defence.
However, Spurs fans are growing fearful that they could lose one of their star men over a contract disagreement.
Football Insider verdict:
It is understandable that Man City want to snap up Alderweireld as he would strengthen their back-line and is the best centre-back in the Premier League. The Belgian has made a colossal impact during his time at Spurs and has taken to English football very comfortably. Pochettino will be desperate to keep the defender in his side and needs to convince chairman Daniel Levy to drastically alter the wage structure to accommodate the top players. Alderweireld certainly is in the top bracket and Spurs should be doing everything they can to keep him in London. They risk losing their star names unless they change their budget and Alderweireld is the sort of player that can guide them to sivlerware.
