A host of Premier League sides are keeping tabs on Newcastle United’s young midfielder Sean Longstaff after his impressive form on loan at Blackpool, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim that the 19-year-old’s four goals this season have attracted the attention of a number of Newcastle’s top flight rivals, who have been sending scouts to the Tangerines’ recent matches.
Hotshot midfielder Longstaff, who is on loan at Bloomfield Road until January, is a graduate of the youth ranks at the Magpies, and signed a two-year contract extension over the summer.
It is claimed by the Daily Mail that Blackpool will look to extend the youngster’s loan deal until the end of the season after his impressive start, having scored four goals in his first four league matches, while he has also notched up a further two assists.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle will have to be very careful about how they treat Longstaff over the coming season, and will have to prove that they see him as a future talent with a place in the first team in order to avoid him leaving. However, he has to prove what it takes to succeed in the upper reaches of English football. His impressive form at Blackpool is all well and good, but it comes in League One, and making the step up, even to the Championship, can be a tough task. However, with Rafael Benitez at the helm, the midfielder can be certain his development will be well looked after, and it is not often a youngster gets the chance to learn from a Champions League winning manager.
