Top flight duo in late battle for Leeds striker - reliable journalist

By Harvey Byrne

Scottish Premiership sides Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock are in a late battle for young Leeds striker Lee Erwin, according to a reliable journalist.

The striker is currently on loan with League One side Oldham after joining on a season-long loan deal in July.

However, he could be set for another move as former senior Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday evening that he was attracting the interest of the Scottish top flight duo.

Bailey then revealed to a fan that the deal was not a permanent one:

Erwin made the switch to Leeds from Scottish side Motherwell in the summer of 2015 after scoring six goals in 39 appearances for the Well.

However, in his two years at the club he has played just 12 times for the Yorkshire giants’ senior side without returning a goal or assist.

He has had loan spells at lower league sides Oldham and Bury, but he has also struggled with just four goals in 32 appearances in total for the two clubs.

The striker’s contract is set to run out in 2018 and he will be hoping to impress before he’s let go by the English second tier side.

Football Insider verdict:

At 22 years of age there are serious doubts whether Erwin will ever actually make it at Leeds. However, due to the move not being a permanent one there is still a thought that members of the Yorkshire giants’ coaching staff have hopes of him fulfilling that early potential. The striker has struggled in the lower leagues of the English pyramid, but he may find his scoring boots in Scotland, where it is arguably easier to find the back of the net. Leeds are currently blessed in the forward department in Chris Wood and Erwin is not needed in the immediate future, meaning a temporary move away will be the best for his career.
